State of Play 720p BluRay x264-REFiNED

Just watched State of Play in BluRay last night, let me tell you, they're not making movies like this any more. State of Play is a smart political thriller, that will keep on the edge the whole time, you'll get enough action, killings, bad-ass crazy hitmen, mean politicians, good journalists, all in all, great acting and a great movie. The ending from State of Play is of course surprising, you won't predict the outcome. or can you?

The key role is played by Russell Crowe, Cal McAffrey is a 'seasoned' journalist, with years of experience, typing his articles on a 14 years old computer. He knows a lot of people, lots of high placed connections, so when he gets on to a story, it's only a matter of time until he figures all the pieces of the puzzle. His college buddy Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) is a bigshot now, a congressman who is after a big and mean military organisation called PointCorp.

Things get messy when Collins's mistress gets killed, McAffrey is after the truth, but a veil of lies and deceit makes the search quite difficult and dangerous.

Funny thing, Russell Crowe's character also had a romantic relationship with Collins's wife, played by Robin Wright Penn.

I don't know, Russell Crowe gained a few pounds, six-pack all the way, somehow I can't imagine him starring in a new Gladiator film. The man has a temper, but in the movie he was quite nice and beeing a sport for the fellow colleagues, Rachel McAdams and Helen Mirren.

But he shines nevertheless, he has style, you'll understand why he gets the big bucks.

District 9 - Aliens seen in HD 720p & 1080p quality

The summer is quite slow, so a movie like District 9 can create a lot of hype. We see in District 9 a fictional world where a alien race has become refugees in South Africa. The idea of the film is very original, District 9 has style, just take a look at the hidh definition trailers, you'll understand that this is a true science fiction/alien blockbuster and why you need to have this in your bluray collection (heavily CGI science fiction movies are best suited for high definition).

I've read something very funny on IMDb about this film (thanks to Not_Fast_Not_Furious):

1000 THINGS WE MIGHT LEARN FROM District 9

1. Aliens like to land in south africa
2. Humans do not like things that they don't understand
3. Touching something you have never seen before can get you in trouble
4. Humans are greedy bastards who always wants the best weapons to make their armies strong
5. The guy who always gets sick turns out to the the hero
6. Advanced aliens from a different planet, make shanty towns to live in
7. If an Alien is broadcasted on tv their faces must be censored and voice must be dubbed
8. The hero once again is white in a movie that takes place in africa.... (ref to blood diamond)
9. When meeting a new race from outer space always ask "How do your weapons work?"
10. Aliens want to go home.
11. Humans like studying things they don't understand even if its going to get them killed
12. If infected by an alien virus go to the nearest shanty town basement and pilot a alien suit of armor
13. Rockets are useless against spaceships they always get caught.
14. No humans are allowed in alien shantytowns.
15. No one listens to the aliens therefore *beep* happens...
16. Humans are over protective on little things...
17. If there is a Huge Spaceship over africa, send a bunch of helicopters to investigate instead of tanks, jets, and infantry
18. It is useless to hide against your own kind, they will find you (human on human)

I hope you enjoyed as much as I did. I can't wait to get my hands on the bluray version. In the meantime the whole pack of HD 720p and 1080p trailers (the arrival & eviction clips) will have to make do.

X-Men Origins Wolverine 720p BluRay x264-METiS

I don't know that much about the X-Men Origins Wolverine movie. I never saw this film. I guess I've seen the first and the second X-Men movie, but after that, it was kind of the same film on rewind over and over again.
Anyway Hugh Jackman is a great actor (remember The Prestige), and the reviews are very positive, so I'll give it a try.

The next Hugh Jackman movie is called Personal Security, a musical where he will star together with Miley Cyrus.

HD DVD is dead, Blu Ray is still alive

but for how long? is Blu Ray really the best technological solution available? should we invest our hard earned money in these blue Blu-ray discs?

maybe we should learn from the very sad experience with our DVD movie collections. a lot of people spent thousands of dollars building an impressive collection of DVDs, featuring all possible versions of a movie, starting with the special edition, unrated DVD, Widescreen, Director's cut, Extended, 2-disc, Platinum, Aniversary, Limited, Ultimate, Extrem...

Then buying the new version, because the new movie DVD has 20 seconds more of very important unseen footage, 2 new interviews, a new art work and a very expensive and unique and limited piece of plastic in funky colors. (should I say Lord of the Rings ?!?)

DVD quality meant in the beginning high digital image quality. on the standard television sets it certainly look that way, nice colors, sharp image and all. But as soon as the first high resolution tv sets appeared, people started to fill uneasy about the great DVD quality, the hidden imperfections appeared. pixels and even squares were very visible, and many started to pay attention to words like image resolution, pixel density.

HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray epical battle

The industry saved the day of course: two new highly competitive products, HD DVD and Blu-Ray. Fierce competition between the two, who will conquer the market? That sounds like the battle between DVD-R and DVD+R, who cares who will win?

Blu-Ray won the fight, HD DVD lost, but this came quite late in the game. Again, the same people that owned the big DVD collection, started already to buy the same movies and the new ones also in HD DVD quality. At double the price of course, but it was worth it, the plastic case was much smaller and modern, so they saved a lot of shelf space.

Don't worry about it, the industry great minds said, you can keep your HD DVDs, they still play on your HD DVD player, no problem. Only if you want to buy new Blu-Ray movies, you'll probably need to own a compliant Blu-Ray player as well. Because Blu-Ray is the future, you need to be prepared.

So now the humanity is happy, the balance in the universe is once again restored:

• buy a HDTV Ready or a full HD 1080p LCD or Plasma flat screen (best viewed in 40" or more)
• buy a Plastation 3 or a Xbox 360
• don't forget your Blu-Ray player
• go to the store and buy your copy protected Blu-Ray discs, in full high definition.
• enjoy life

This scenario is too good to be true, what do you think?
there must be something else in store for us, how about those new 4060v Green-Ray discs?

Miss March UNRATED 720p BluRay x264-iNFAMOUS

not so much to say about Miss March, only that it's HILARIOUS. you will laugh almost the entire time, Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore are really funny. the best moments you'll probably get with Craig Robinson a.k.a. Horsedick.MPEG, you laugh until you cry.

the story is simple, boy and girl in high school, boy has a bad accident that puts him in a coma. after four years, he wakes up, in a very bad physical condition, and goes on a mission with his half crazy buddy to search for his girlfriend, who is now a centerfold bunny in the playboy mansion. Horsedick.MPEG helps them getting the job done.

I know it's a silly movie, OK, there is some nudity, but normal for sex comedies.

GI Joe: the Rise of Cobra Bluray 720p/1080p soon

I must admit, this G.I. Joe movie looks very promising, the special effects are simply amazing. I wonder what would we do without all this very advanced CGI technology, who needs real heroes when we have computer simulated heroes?

Anyway, seeing the Eiffel tower breaking in small pieces and crumpling like a house of cards it's something you won't see every day, so why not, just leave your brain at home and enjoy the show.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra shows the adventures of a elite military unit, only the best breed, actors like Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid (looks a bit old and tired), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Sienna Miller trying to fight an very evil and dangerous scotish arms dealer, Cobra (go figure).

The director Stephen Sommers has a lot of experience with this kind of action flicks, from his Mummy days, great battles between good and evil, slow motion flying violence, tons of knives thrown to the head; comic book lovers, can you ask for more?

The BluRay release of GI Joe: the Rise of Cobra is definitely a must see, that's why you spent so much money on your big flat screen, now it's time to get your money's worth.



The release date is unknown, but in the meantime enjoy the perfect quality of the two 720p and 1080p high definition trailers.

Star Trek - BluRay 720p vs. 1080p - what first?

UPDATE: it looks like the 720p bluray came first: Star Trek 2009 BluRay 720p x264 DTS-WiKi

The official release date for the DVD and Blu-ray is November 17, but who knows, someone might try to release a 720p or 1080p bluray version until then. I think the 720p release will be there first, because it will be easier to encode and download friendlier, do to the smaller size, but the better quality of the 1080p image resolution might play an important role too.

Anyway, the new Star Trek movie is great, a great action film, so it's worth the wait, and also the money for the Blu-Ray disk.
The movie has many different names, I don't know why it's so difficult to find one and stick with it: Star Trek XI, Star Trek Zero, Star Trek: The Future Begins.

There are also some fake film names, can you believe that? Corporate Headquarters, Untitled Paramount Project, Untitled Walter Lace Project, even The Ernest Castelhun Chronicles.

The film is 102 in the IMDb Top 250 Movies of all times, that says a lot about this prequel to the existing Star Trek movies.

The story has a lot of fresh ideas and also new actors. Chris Pine is the young and unexpierienced James T. Kirk, and Zachary Quinto (the spookie bad guy from the TV show Heroes) plays Spock.

Together with Eric Bana (Nero) they have some great 3D and computer generated special effects adventures with the freshly build Enterprise. You learn how the main cast members first met and grew together as a team.

The director J.J. Adams is a genious to continue the Star Trek franchise like this, and I'm positive that there will be a lot of other pre Star trek movies to come.

The Prestige 2006 720p BluRay x264 ESiR

my favorite Hugh Jackman movie and one of the best film of all times, the prestige is number 82 in the IMDb top 250 movies. And that says a lot about the movie qualities and why you definitely need to own this in a future safe video standard like bluray.

I really took the time, after I saw the movie starring Christian Bale (again, this guy is a wonder like in 3:10 to Yuma) and Hugh Jackman, to read the Christopher Priest's Novel with the same name, the Prestige, to see if the mindblowing story was the same in the book as put into images from the director Christopher Nolan.
And I couldn't decide which story is more disturbing. This is probably also for you to decide: see the movie, read the book (it has only 100 pages and so), will win a lot of knowledge about the different aspects of the story.

Public Enemies with Johnny Depp on Bluray

This is definitely Johnny Depp's great comeback in the action movie world. Somehow I didn't click with his other work so far, and with that I mean Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland. What was the point of all those movies? Even the Pirates movies, come on, are they comedies or are meant for little children?

You want to see the real Johnny Depp, go watch Donnie Brasco, Blow or even Secret Window. those are real movies, and now with Public Enemies, together with Christian Bale (another great actor that played in Dark Knight and Terminator 4) they play the famous bank robbers and cops that tried to catch them. so a good choice for your bluray collection.

The film goes like any other biography movie of those crazy years, half reality, half fiction. The director Michael Mann tries to put Dillinger in a good light, showing a bit of his personal life, his affairs, his women, his roberries. of course we don't know how much is the truth. Somehow we should not really care, it's fun to watch.

I'll let you know when you can get this movie in bluray quality, I think it's worth the wait.

The Soloist 720p BluRay x264-iNFAMOUS

I've seen the movie The Soloist last night, in hires bluray 720p of course. This is a movie you will remember, and you'll probably think twice before walking away from a homeless guy on the street. The fragility of the human mind, the danger of the split second when your mind can go away. Especially when you habe kids......don't want to think about it anymore.

Did you see Jamie Foxx's face and make-up? He doesn't look anything like the cool guy from Miami Vice or Collateral. But this is what makes him a great actor. Robert Downey, who is not Downey Jr. anymore (you can see the wrinkles in the bluray 720p resolution), also delivers a great performance, but I think this is not really his style.
